As a tennis coach, Kyle spends a lot of time outdoors. After being diagnosed with melanoma in his mid-20s, he has discovered that daily sun protection means more than just sunscreen.

Could you please share your experiences around being diagnosed with skin cancer? How has your relationship with the sun changed following your diagnosis?

Earlier this year I was diagnosed with a 1.4mm melanoma and have had my own struggles with sun exposure. After being diagnosed and going through 2 surgeries, the harsh reality set in. As a tennis coach I'm working in the sun all day, and I realised that sunscreen alone isn’t enough for long-term exposure.

What does living a sun-safe life mean to you, and how has sun protection impacted your confidence or comfort when spending time outdoors?

Being outside and in the sun is a part of my livelihood. But what I've realised is being sun-safe doesn't mean not going in the sun. It means being aware of your situation and taking the necessary measures.

Luckily, thanks to Solbari products, I don't have to apply sunscreen 4 times a day. I pop on my ultimate sun protection hat, UPF 50+ sleeves and polo, and just fill in the small gaps with a good mineral based sunscreen. It's effective, hassle free, and actually keeps me cooler than I would be otherwise.

I'm more confident now living an outdoor lifestyle than I was previously. The concerns of long term sun exposure loomed in the back of my head. But now that I know that I have the necessary protection, those looming thoughts are a thing of the past.

What is your favourite Solbari product?

What advice would you give to someone who hasn’t yet embraced sun protection in their routine?

It's not about awareness, it's about action. Everyone knows someone, who knows someone in Australia who has dealt with skin cancer. And I know it’s a cliché, but you never think it can happen to you... until it does!

Take it from me, I'm a 26 year old who has only lived in Australia for 3 years. Sunscreen was a massive part of my routine. And it just wasn't enough. Save yourself the hassle, cover up, it's like insurance for your skin.
