Women's Sun Hats with Neck Flap UPF 50+

For extended time spent outdoors, this range delivers more coverage. Women’s sun hats with neck flaps add a built-in cape that shields the back and sides of the neck, areas often left exposed to UV.

Choose from three purpose-built styles.

  • The Trekker Sun Hat, often referred to as a legionnaire-style hat, features a 3.5-inch brim, a 6.5-inch neck cape, ventilation panels, and a moisture-wicking sweatband.
  • The Outback Sun Hat offers a 4-inch front brim and an extended 8.25-inch flap, inspired by the great Australian Outback.
  • The Ultimate Sun Hat delivers lightweight, breathable coverage across the face, neck, and ears.

Built for hiking, travel, and everyday outdoor use, each style combines technical fabrics, adjustable fits, and chin straps. All fabrics are independently tested and rated UPF 50+, blocking at least 98% of UV rays.

The neck: one of the most overlooked areas in sun protection

A wide-brimmed hat helps shade the face, ears and shoulders, but the back of the neck can still be exposed. When the sun is lower in the sky or you’re looking down, UV rays may still reach this often-missed area. A neck flap provides added coverage where a brim alone may not.

A neck flap, or neck cape, adds a panel of UPF 50+ fabric to the back and sides of the hat, draping down to protect the neck. Solbari designs extend this coverage, with capes ranging from 6.75 inches (Trekker) to 8.25 inches (Outback), giving meaningful protection. These styles pair naturally with women’s hiking gear and can be combined with UPF 50+ arm sleeves for more complete coverage.

Built for outdoor performance

Ventilated mesh side panels promote airflow, while moisture-wicking sweatbands help keep you cool. Adjustable inner bands create a secure fit, and detachable chin straps add stability in the wind.

The Outback Travel Hat is shaped by Australian outback conditions, with an extended 8.25-inch flap. The Ultimate Sun Hat is lightweight and water-resistant, suited to coastal and wet environments.

All fabrics, including the neck flap, are independently tested and rated UPF 50+. This delivers protection for covered areas by the hat’s fabric, supported by Solbari’s advanced fabric technology.

Solbari FAQs

A sun hat with a neck flap or legionnaire style is wide-brimmed with a built-in fabric panel that drapes down to cover the back and sides of the neck. UPF 50+ certified fabric extends protection beyond what a brim alone can cover.

To maintain the shape and UPF 50+ protection of your flap neck hat, handwash in cold water with a mild detergent. Avoid machine washing, tumble drying, or wringing the hat, as this can distort the brim and affect the hat's structure. Reshape while damp and allow to air dry naturally away from direct heat. Always check the care label on your specific hat for any additional instructions.

To find your size, measure your head circumference where a hat would naturally sit: across the mid-forehead and around the back, keeping the tape level. Solbari's flap neck sun hats come in three sizes: S (21.75"–22.5"), M (22.75"–23.25"), and L/XL (23.5"–24"). If you're between sizes, size up for comfort. Many styles also feature an internal drawcord or adjustment band for a more customized fit. See our Size Guide page for more information.
