We are based in Melbourne, Australia. All of our intelligent products have been tested and awarded the highest achievable sun protective rating for clothing, UPF 50+ by the Australian Government. Our research & development team has spent years sourcing and testing the most lightweight, breathable and comfortable fabrics that also achieve the Australian Government UPF 50+ rating. We are proud to have already delivered millions of hours of UPF 50+ protection to over 45 countries to date. And the journey has just begun. Live outdoors with confidence, style and comfort.
Welcome to SOLBARI!
All fabrics have some ability to block UV radiation but laboratory testing is needed to tell how useful different fabrics are for sun protection by measuring the Ultra-violet Protection Factor or “UPF” rating for the fabric. Multiple factors that contribute to the UPF rating of a fabric include: composition of the yarn, tightness of the weave or knit, colour, stretch, moisture, condition and finishing. The Australian Government, with no exceptions, independently completes all of the SOLBARI fabric testing. We submit for testing every colour, in every fabric and we do this every time we produce a new yarn. We only continue our production of SOLBARI garments once our fabric has been certified with the maximum rating of UPF50+.
The cause is the cumulative effect of sun overexposure. Regular clothing such as a white cotton t-shirt or hat may only provide protection equivalent to sunscreen of SPF 5.
All SOLBARI products are made of sun protective fabrics that have the maximum UPF50+ sun protection rating.
SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor and is the rating you're familiar with for sunscreens and other sun-protective products. It measures the amount of time it takes for sun-exposed skin to redden, while UPF measures the amount of UV radiation that penetrates a fabric and reaches the skin.
All SOLBARI fabrics have been awarded the highest achievable sun protective rating of UPF50+. Achieving the UPF50+ certification is only the first part of the challenge. In addition to achieving the highest UPF rating we have also sought fabrics that consider specific skin conditions as well as intended activities and sports.
