If you're one of our Northern Hemisphere friends and ready to soak up the summer sun, consider this... Health officials estimate more than 10,000 Americans will die this year from melanoma. The sad reality is that this is more more than one person every hour.
According to medical experts, sun exposure is a risk for increasing your risk for skin cancer.
Therefore, if you go outdoors, this concerns you.
But the good news is that skin cancer and melanoma are preventable in 95% of cases and you can protect yourself from the sun.
Dermatologists recommend you apply sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of at least 30. Regardless of it's a sunny or cloudy day. As up to 80% of UV rays can penetrate through the clouds and harm your skin.
Beware! You can get sunburnt on a cloudy day!
All our products, have the maximum sun protective rating of UPF50+, which is equivalent to wearing SPF50+ sunscreen all day long and block UVA and UVB rays.
Medical experts dispute those who believe that it's necessary to build a tan in order to avoid sunburn. Experts say that any change in color of your skin is actually a sign of damage and skin cells in distress.
If you're going to a sunbed to get a baseline tan: FORGET IT! Sunbeds have been banned in Australia for a good reason. They harm people and are a direct cause of skin cancer and melanoma. So AVOID them at all cost.
It is estimated that more than 76,000 new cases of invasive melanoma will be diagnosed in the USA in 2016. In addition, 3.3 million more people will be treated for another form of skin cancer such as a BCC or SCC. This highlights the importance of checking your skin regularly.
As you'll be well aware by now, we encourage you to check your moles and your skin on a regular basis. If you notice a change in colour or shape, go to your skin GP or dermatologist to get it checked. Get a second opinion too if it makes you feel more comfortable.
